About the GIF Optimization Tool

The GIF Optimization tool is designed to help you reduce the size of existing GIFs without sacrificing too much quality. Whether you’re preparing an image for faster page loads, sharing on social media, or just saving space, this tool gives you simple controls to balance quality and performance. By uploading a GIF and adjusting compression levels, color count, and dithering options, you can significantly shrink file size while still keeping your animation smooth and visually appealing.

To use the tool, upload your GIF, adjust the compression slider, and choose options like dropping every 2nd or 3rd frame to reduce animation length. You can also set a maximum number of colors, adjust dithering patterns, and control looping behavior. Once you’re happy with your settings, click Optimize to generate a new, smaller version of your GIF that you can preview and download instantly.

Tips & Tricks

  • Start with compression: Try moderate settings first (20–40) for a big size reduction with minimal visual impact.
  • Drop frames carefully: Removing every 2nd or 3rd frame can shrink files drastically, but may make animations choppier.
  • Reduce colors: Lowering max colors from 256 to 128 or 64 often cuts file size in half with little noticeable difference.
  • Pick your dithering: Floyd-Steinberg dithering preserves more detail, while Bayer dithering can give a more stylized look.
  • Resize wide GIFs: If your GIF is very large, scaling down the width is one of the fastest ways to save space.
  • Keep transparency in mind: Preserve transparency for overlays, or flatten it if you want simpler output and smaller files.
